Icon of the Good Shepherd

The icon of the "Good Shepherd" depicts Christ with a lamb on His shoulder, holding a shepherd's staff, an image of Christ loving compassion and great love for mankind, while the cross behind Him reminds us of His victory over death. 

This image is rooted in the Gospels, as it draws its form from both Christ's sermon regarding the good shepherd and also from the parable of the lost sleep (the lamb on His shoulder).

A reminder  of Christ's limitless love and mercy for fallen man: 

"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep." - John 10:11

"What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?" Luke 14:4

The colour of the clothing: red represents Christ humanity cloaked in divinity (blue).
